Meet Kelly Ouma, an 18-year old residing in the heart of Kibra in Nairobi, Kenya. He's the eldest of three siblings and a true testament to resilience and determination. He joined Olympics High School in 2020, dreaming of a bright future. However, the year 2021 brought unprecedented challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic, forcing him to endure over a month at home, anxious about the prospect of returning to his beloved school.
Kelly's connection with the One Chance Fund began in 2021 when he submitted his scholarship application, a heartfelt plea for support. In his application, he wrote, "I really need this scholarship because I'm not sure if I can go to school again for the third semester. My parents are still paying off the money they borrowed to pay for my grades 9 and 10.” His words resonated with the profound desire to learn, despite standing on the precipice of dropping out of school.
At that critical moment, the One Chance Fund extended a helping hand, offering not just financial support but also a student care package and mentorship, ensuring that he could focus on his studies without the thought of dropping out haunting him. Kelly expressed his gratitude, stating, "I am deeply thankful for the scholarship offered by the One Chance Fund; it has given me the assurance that my dream will indeed become a reality."
