We are excited to share an inspiring success story of one of our scholarship recipients, Doreen Omollo. Her journey is a remarkable testament to the impact that our scholarship fund is having on the lives of children and youth in need.
Doreen , 28 years old, grew up in a family with limited resources, with just enough for her parents to take care of her and her seven siblings. She hails from a community where girls are expected to be married after Grade 8, and therefore her family did not prioritize her education. With the support of well wishers, Doreen worked tirelessly to score an impressive 324 / 500 marks in her KCPE national exams. She later joined a mixed day high school that was a three-hour walk to and from school, which was not easy for her, but she never gave up on her dreams.
In her last year of high school, Doreen faced a traumatic experience of being raped and stabbed twice in the abdomen. Despite this, she persevered and managed to sit for her 2011 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education ( KCSE ) exams in the hospital. Doreen's dream of becoming a nurse was born out of the care she received from the nurses who looked after her while in the hospital.
However, due to the traumatic experience, Doreen did not perform very well in her national exam and was unable to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. After ten years of hustling, working as a housemaid, and trying her hand in running a small fish business, she realized that she needed to go back to high school to achieve better grades that would make it easier for her to pursue her dream of becoming a nurse.
At 27 years old, she went back to high school and enrolled in Grade 11, using all the little savings she had from working as a caregiver. Unfortunately, the money was not enough, and she was on the brink of dropping out of school. Luckily, Doreen saw a post on our Facebook page and quickly made an application for our scholarship fund.
We believed in Doreen's potential and gave her a second chance to pursue her dreams. Thanks to your generous contributions, Doreen was able to continue her education and sat for her national secondary examination in 2022, where she scored a remarkable Grade B. We are proud to announce that Doreen is one of the top 6 students who are waiting to join university/college in Sep 2023.
Doreen's dream of becoming a nurse is still alive, and she is now seeking financial support to pursue her nursing course. We are confident that with the right backing, she will become an exceptional nurse and an inspiration to many others. Her journey is a powerful reminder that it's never too late to chase our dreams and that with the right support, everyone deserves a second chance and with God, all things are possible. We are honored to have been a part of her journey and are excited to see where her determination takes her next.
We are committed to supporting young people like Doreen in achieving their dreams and transforming their lives. Her story is a testament to the impact that our scholarship fund is having on the lives of needy children and young people. We are grateful to you for your continued support, and we look forward to sharing more success stories with you in the future.
Thank you for making a difference in the lives of these beautiful souls.
