As we reflect on the past year's accomplishments, we are thrilled to share the inspiring stories and heartwarming milestones of the One Chance Fund with our incredible community of supporters and sponsors. Our mission to empower the less privileged and vulnerable children and disadvantaged youth in Nairobi, Kenya, has been brought to life through your generosity and commitment. Together, we have made a real difference in the lives of these students, providing them with educational support and life skills development to help them enjoy equal opportunities and achieve self-reliance.
1. 68 Needy Students joined the One Chance Fund Family
In the past year, our most significant achievement has been enrolling 67 students from Grade 8 to 12, with more than 70% from the Kibera slum and the rest from rural Kenya. By maintaining an equal distribution of boys and girls, we have nurtured an environment of inclusivity, ensuring that all children can access the education and support they deserve.
In addition, your unwavering support has made it possible for us to fully cover fees and provide care packs for 68 students in 2022 – five in college and universities and 63 in high school. This support has not only impacted the lives of these students but also brought hope and relief to their families.
2. Successful transition from high school to universities and colleges
The success stories continue with our students' impressive academic achievements. Three out of five of our students who sat for the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) have qualified to join university as government-sponsored students. With your generous support, One Chance Fund will cover part of the fees, enabling these bright young minds to pursue their dreams. The other students have qualified to join technical colleges, opening doors to rewarding careers and brighter futures.
3. Launch of the Girls Empowerment Program at Olympics High School:
We take immense pride in girls' empowerment program, which has had a transformative impact on the lives of our female students. This program focuses on essential life skills such as menstrual hygiene, healthy relationships, sexual awareness, drug abuse prevention, spiritual growth, and tackling early pregnancies. The program's impact is evident as girls from the Kibera slum have become more confident, self-assured, and empowered to make informed decisions in their lives.
4. Launch of student sponsorship website
The launch of our student sponsorship website, onechancefund.org, has opened new avenues for connecting students with sponsors like you, who are willing to invest in their future. In just one year, 16 students have been matched with a sponsor, giving them access to the resources they need to continue their education and build a brighter future.
5. Celebrating Unity at Our Annual Event:
Our heartwarming annual event was a testament to the power of community and unity. One Chance Fund stakeholders, students, and sponsors came together for a memorable day of interaction, bonding, sharing the word of God, singing, and praying together. The atmosphere was filled with joy, gratitude, and hope for the future.
