Samuel is a bright and ambitious 16-year-old boy who is currently in 10th grade and awaiting sponsorship. He was recommended to us by the local government administrator and his school principal. He lives with his mother, who is divorced and unemployed, in his uncle's home as they cannot afford their own housing. Samuel's role model is a fellow student who always offers assistance. He is the second-born in a family of six children.
Samuel faced many challenges in school. He struggled to afford even the most basic necessities like food, school uniform, shoes, and lighting. Because of outstanding school fees, he did not receive lunch at school and would sometimes sneak meals from outside the school grounds and hide them in the compound. However, he was sometimes caught by teachers. This made it difficult for him to concentrate in school and focus on his studies.
We were moved by Samuel's determination and decided to help through the One Chance Fund program. We offered him education support and provided him with a new school shoes, uniform, and a portable solar lamp that allows him to study at night. In addition, Samuel receives a student care pack and is now able to join the rest of the student during school tours/visits. This support has made a significant difference in Samuel's life, allowing him to focus on his studies and work towards achieving his dream of becoming a lawyer.
Thanks to the support of the One Chance Fund education scholarship, Samuel is through with the 10th grade and he is still looking for a sponsor to get him through his secondary school education. He will be joining the 11th grade in January 2023 and is expected to graduate in Dec 2024. He is determined to succeed and become a lawyer, and your support plays a crucial role in helping him achieve his dream. We are proud to be a part of his journey and to help break the cycle of poverty for deserving young people like Samuel.
